WAR ON WIMMIN STATS ON RAPE WIMMIN'S DEATH CULTURE(next)
what wars do to wimmin wimmin & the "war on terror" main wimmin & war

Views of men suggest that we do live in a rape culture:

o--One out of twelve college men in a 1988 study admitted that they committed acts that meet the legal definition of rape or attempted rape, but only 1% of them consider the behavior criminal in nature. (University of Florida, 1988).

o--25-30% of male college students admit that there is some likelihood that they would rape a woman if they could get away with it.

o--If an account of a rape is used instead of the word "rape" in the question, the percentage shoots up to 53%.

o--The percentage went down to 17% if there was no assurance that they would get away with the act (an account of rape rather than the word "rape" was used).

o--In a study of 356 males, 60% said they might commit an act of rape, use force, or both.

o--50% of high school males believe it is acceptable to "hold a girl down and force her to have sexual intercourse in instances such as when she 'gets him sexually aroused' or says 'she's going to have sex and then changes her mind'."

o--In another study, a group of men were asked "have you ever wanted to rape a woman?" when answering anonymously, 46 % answered "yes". When their identities were revealed, the number went up to 52%.

These statistics suggest two very scary things:
first, that men think it is manly, "macho" or just simply OK to want to rape;
secondly, that if they thought they could get away with it (and 97% of rapists do) our failed judicial system is creating an environment of widespread rape.
