4 0. Ask a question
4 1. What does the Wemoon's Army do?
Aside from what it says in the Mission Statement about what we do, we are involved in many activities and projects both individually and collectively. Some of these have included putting together our own media [zines, websites, cd's, etc.], community outreach [revivals, linking with other activist groups], street theatre, protesting at local and mass demonstrations, various direct action, putting together workshops, starting our own spontaneous "take back the night" events, radio shows, and whatever creative ideas we can come up with to support the ideals in the mission statement.
4 2. Where is Wemoon's Army located?
We don't have a central location [we're a nonhierarchical collective]. Wemoon's Army is an international phenomenon. There are cells spreading like wildfire all over the earth. Some are stationary and some are traveling cells. Some mutate into other things. Some are new and some have been around for several years. If you don't see one in your area, start one up! Remember it only takes one person to make a cell.
4 3. Why is it called the "WEMOON's Army"?
"Wemoon" means "Women."
Instead of defining ourselves in relation to men (as in woman or female) we use the word we'moon to define ourselves by our primary relation to the natural sources of cosmic flow*. As wemoon we seek to be whole in ouselves rather than dividing ourselves in half, and hoping that some "other half" will complete the picture. We see the whole range of life's potential embodied and expressed by wemoon and do not divide the universe into sex-role stereotypes according to a heterosexual model. --taken from ' we'moon gaia rhythms for womyn'- written by Musawa
*a note from ladycrow about the cosmic flow-->it may sound a bit new-agey but its actually really old-agey. scientifically, our bodies are something like 80+% water. scientifically, the moon - la luna - pulls the tides of the ocean!!! so logically .. .the moon has a bit of influence on us -- especially us gals with our monthly blood celebrations. . .
4 4. Why is it called the "Wemoon's ARMY"?
The word "army" recognizes the seriousness of our global situation as womyn, as living beings. It recognizes that we are under attack physically, mentally and spiritually. Seeing this, we must organize and develop the tools of resistance. We must not cooperate with patriarchy. Cooperation is consent. We must not lay down. It is time to fight back with whatever means necessary, whatever we can conjure up. We are forced to fight oppression on an every day level. We can either do this alone or in groups that support and nourish our efforts to break the silence. The goal of the system is to divide and conquer. Our goal is to come together and revolutionalize ourselves and our systars. We must also identify our "enemy" - patriarchy, dominance, capitalism, imperialism, racism, classism, ageism, ableism, sexism, ourselves, all war, all boxes we are all crammed into. We do not view Wemoon's Army as anything less than just that: an army. We are fighting a righteous fight and we are a force to be reckoned with. If the idea of womyn reclaiming the word "army" is uncomfortable for you, we urge you to ask yourself why.
"The first thing a soldier does is train. In boot camp she learns physical tactics and the psychology of her enemy. She meditates upon all the nuances that come into play in the battle of how a life lived in fear is a life half lived.
In the Army of me, self-protection class was appointment number one." - Inga Muscio, Cunt
